Welcome Everyone!

Thank you for agreeing to joining our Internet-based discussion board about Peanut Butter! Over the next three (3) days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday/Sunday), we’ll be conducting an online discussion about peanut butter....how you use it, what your favorites are, feelings about the various kinds and brands of peanut butter, whether you prefer chunky or smooth, etc.

Let me begin by thanking you for taking the time to participate in this discussion. I can only imagine how busy all of you are with school, jobs and your various personal responsibilities.

It all starts with you.  You are playing a part in a much larger project that will take place over the next few months.  Our next step is to take your feelings "on the road" and to sit down with consumers like yourself to listen to their perspective on peanut butter.  In late February we will conduct a quantitative survey with hundreds of peanut butter consumers to see how their opinions match up with the stories, anecdotes and opinions voiced by folks like you.  You are setting the stage for our project and the success of this initiative is in your hands.  Thank you for your help and dedication to both BuzzSponge and this project.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!

First, some background about the discussion. I work for a market research company called Peacock Nine, which is based in Chicago. I think that Peacock Nine is an incredibly exciting place to work because it allows me to talk to people from all different walks of life about the things and issues that are meaningful to them---like FOOD and PEANUT BUTTER. The purpose of this discussion is to explore your feelings about PEANUT BUTTER from as many angles as possible.  The more information you share with us the more you will help me understand your opinions and feelings. So feel free to speak, and speak often--both to me directly and in response to the opinions of each other. One last point, please note that we have nothing to sell or promote to you, and you will never be contacted in the future about any product or service, unless you choose to opt-in to participate for future research studies.

Secondly, we’ve got some exciting news. As we mentioned to you in our earlier emails, we will be providing each of you with a $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com in exchange for your time and opinions. These gift certificates will be e-mailed to you on Monday after you have completed all three days of this discussion board.

Furthermore, we have an extra incentive for our participants this week: on Monday, we will be providing the one person with the MOST OFTEN and MOST COMPLETE answers to our questions with an ADDITIONAL $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com. You will decide who that lucky winner will be by a hidden ballot vote at the end of the discussion board on Friday (unfortunately you will not be able to vote for yourself...I hope that you understand).

Some tricks and tips regarding this discussion board. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers in these daily discussion sessions. We’re just looking for candid and honest answers to our questions. It is important to remember that YOU ARE MY EXPERTS! I need to hear how you personally feel about things--not how your friends and families feel about PEANUT BUTTER. Also, be sure to read each other’s posts, and feel free to respond to them, too! By commenting on each other posts, and asking follow-up questions, we’ll have the most enjoyable and productive group discussion possible. What we don't want are just a series of simultaneous individual interviews. You are all passionate people...that is, in large part, why we picked you.  Please take the time to read up on everyone's posts and feel free to voice your agreement or disagreement with what they are saying. Most importantly, your interaction with one-another will ensure that everybody’s ideas about PEANUT BUTTER are effectively shared, and that we are all learning something from each other!

Won oder thing to considdr: Typos dont mater here. We all make them, so don’t worry about it if you do!  What is most important is that you get your thoughts on the discussion board for the rest of us to read and respond to.

More to come...

Here are a few more logistics…

1. Expect my posts for the day to appear each morning --by 6:30 AM Eastern Time.

2. Please visit the discussion board site AT LEAST once a day – at any time(s) that are convenient for you. We expect that it should take you 20 minutes a day to answer each question; however, please feel free to visit as much as you’d like, and spend as long as you’d like answering our questions and responding to one-another.

3. If you need to contact me, you can do so by A) clicking on the envelope beside my name, B) sending an email to me at chriselliott@peacocknine.com or C) phoning me at 312.664.4433 x1.

4) Should you need to contact me after working hours, I can be reached via email at chriselliott@peacocknine.com.

How this site works:

You’ve arrived at the site where you can view all the “posts.” Posts are messages left by me (the moderator) and you. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to bookmark (save in Favorites) the web address that brought you here, since you will be visiting this site on a daily basis over the next six days.

Our discussion is divided into “Sections.” You’ll need to choose a section to delve into by picking from the list of Section options near the top of your screen. All sections will be dated to help you get your bearings.

I’ll post one or more sets of questions each day. Please read each one and respond to it.

To reply to any post, click on the “Reply” button located just to the left of the name of the person who wrote the message you want to reply to. A new window will appear, with the message you are responding to on the right, and a blank box on the left for you to type your response. If you would like to use a “quote” from another respondent in your reply, feel free to cut and paste from the original message on the right.

Once you’ve typed your message, click on the “Post Message” button below the message entry box to add it to “the thread” (the interwoven series of messages that will form the “fabric” of the discussion).

Hi gang

This will be terrific.  I must admit to having a secret obsession with peanut butter, so I'll have lots to say on the topic.  Can't wait to get started.

Hi All
I just wanted to respond to the introduction from Chris briefly. I just wanted to say that I am excited to be a part of this focus group as it is my true belief taht consumer opinions are very important specifically to the marketability of a product. he other reason i'm excited about being a part of this group is the topic. "PEANUT BUTTER" A subject that illicits childhood memories and grown up experiences. I look foward to participating .

With the preliminaries out of the way, let’s get started!

At this point, let’s get familiar with the medium and learn a bit about each other! Please devote a paragraph or two to the following questions.

We want to learn about Y.O.U! We’ve got "peanut butter fans" participating in this discussion from all over the United States.  Help us all get to know where you are coming from.
--Where do you live?
--How does peanut butter fit into your life?  What role does it play?
--What varieties of peanut butter are your favorites?
--How do you feel about the different kinds of peanut butter available today (mainstream, natural/organic, fresh ground, etc.)
--What brands of peanut butter do you buy?
--Pease provide us with a detailed description of what an "ideal peanut butter moment" for you looks like and feels like.
--Finally, how would you feel if PEANUT BUTTER no longer existed?  (sounds, smells, feelings, emotions, etc.)

Please be detailed, chatty and conversational in your responses as possible. “Speak” in paragraph form, Use these questions as the basis of your reply. Feel free to tell us about your  "foodie" self, but try to touch on as many of the questions listed above.

TO REPLY TO THIS (OR ANY OTHER) POST, PLEASE CLICK ON THE “RESPOND TO” BUTTON TO THE LEFT OF THE AUTHOR’S NAME AT THE TOP OF THE POST. WHEN THE NEW WINDOW APPEARS, TYPE YOUR REPLY ON THE EMPTY/LEFT SIDE. IF YOU’D LIKE, CUT AND PASTE FROM THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO THE RIGHT. BE SURE TO READ AND (IF YOU ARE SO INCLINED) RESPOND TO POSTS BY OTHER PARTICIPANTS.

ALSO, IT HELPS TO DRAFT YOUR RESPONSES IN WORD AND THEN CUT AND PASTE THEM ONTO THE BOARD.  THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAT LOSING YOUR WORK!

I live in Chicago with my hubby and our three cats.  Also, I love peanut butter!  It's a great snack or an easy thing to eat if I'm on-the-go.  I feel like it really keeps me feeling full...but is also pretty healthy!

I prefer smooth peanut butter...and I tend to go for the organic versions (which often need to be stirred a bit).  I also buy freshly ground peanut butter at Whole Foods and it's very fresh!  Another thing that I've discovered is whipped peanut butter...it's delicious!

An ideal peanut butter moment for me would be eating a banana with peanut butter while curled up on the sofa at home.  I love the banana flavor mixed with the peanut butter!

If peanut butter no longer existed, I'd probably be bummed but alright.  (Heck, I studied abroad in college and it practically doesn't exist in Europe.)  However, it is a favorite food of mine...so if it no longer existed, I'd be sad.  I'd miss the thick consistency of the peanut butter and especially the taste of peanut butter mixed with banana or chocolate.  I might replace it with almond butter...not as good but similar in certain ways.

Hi Peacock Nine --

Could you please ask Rembrandt to expand a little more on her discovery of whipped peanut butter. Specifically - where does she buy it? What does she eat it with? What are the perceived advantages?

I'm curious about some recent brand extensions in this area and it would be great to foster some discussion around this area.

Thanks.

01/24/2008 12:05 PM CST

Chris

Hi Rembrandt,

It sounds like you have tried quite a variety of peanut butters! From organic to freshly ground to whipped!

Could you tell me a little bit more about each kind? What inspires you to have one type vs. another?

Also, can you tell me a little more about whipped peanut butter? I've never heard of this before. Specifically...
- Where did you find this new product? Where do you usually buy it?
- Is there a particular brand that you prefer?
- When do you choose to eat whipped peanut butter? Does it go better with some things than others?
- And lastly, what do you feel are the primary benefits of whipped peanut butter?

What about the rest of you? Is this something that others have heard about? Is it something you'd be interested in trying? Why or why not?

I live in Lawrence Indiana about 30 minutes north of downtown Indianapolis. There are always at least 2 jars of peanut butter in our house at all times. I like the chunky kind and my wife likes the smooth. I usually eat it as a dessert or on waffles and my wife likes it on a sandwich or on apples and celery. She is the healthy one. My favorites are Jif and Reeses. I prefer the mainstream types of peanut butter. The taste reminds me of when I was a kid and the natural, fresh ground is too runny for me. It separates and is gross. We mostly just buy Jif. I guess that's because both my wife and I grew up with it. An ideal peanut butter moment for me would be 2 large scoops of vanilla ice cream with 3 huge spoonfuls of Jif peanut butter finally covered with maple syrup - all of this after a meal of BBQ chicken! I would be very upset if peanut butter no longer existed. It's also in a lot of my favorite candy bars so that too would upset me. I also think that George Washington Carver would also be upset if peanut butter no longer existed!

01/24/2008 11:38 AM CST

Chris

Thanks Klimt!

Peanut Butter and Maple Syrup? Now that's a combination I have never heard before! Why do you think these go so well together?

You mentioned that you like chunky and your wife likes smooth. What makes you prefer the chunky kind? Is it just texture or is there more to it than that?

01/24/2008 11:45 AM CST

Gustuv Klimt

It's great...you should try it. I'm not sure exactly why they go so well together - but if you tried it you would know. It's kind of like chocolate and chili peppers. Have you ever tried that? I like the chunky better because of the texture - it's a little like eating a peanut butter candy bar!

Rene Magritte

Hi everybody.

I live in New York City, on the upper west side.  I am married and have four kids.

Peanut butter plays a few different roles in my life.  As a mom, its my secret weapon to get my kids to actually eat.  I can put it on pretty much anything and they'll eat it.  Broccoli goes from being a bad guy to hero with just one spoonful smoothed across the top.  I know, I know.  Broccoli and peanut butter?  You'd be surprised by the concotions my four year old can come up with.  And its also my secret vice in the afternoons.  I can convince myself that I'm "just having a few crackers" for a snack, but when you layer those wheat thins with PB...its a whole different kind of experience!  Crunchy crackers with creamy peanut butter..the best.

I'm pretty much a purist when it comes to PB.  Historically I've always chosen Skippy and continue to do so for my kids.  For me, though, I am now eating Trader Joe's unsalted peanut butter because I think it has less sugar.  I've never dipped into those flavored peanut butters or anything.

My ideal moment is when I can sneak away from my screaming rascals of children and have a "me moment" with the peanut butter jar.  And if it wasn't there anymore?  Well, I suppose I'd fill the moment with something equally or more indulgent..dark chocolate maybe?

I think that's all for now.

Chris

Hi Magritte!
Thanks for joining us!  With 4 kids on your hands your time is limited.  Thank you for volunteering what little free time you have to help us with this project.  I think that you will enjoy the dialogue.

Why have you recently decided to switch from Skippy to Trader Joe's? Besides sugar, what are you giving up? What are you gaining in return?

Also, can you tell me more about your "Me Moments"? What other foods (besides dark chocolate) feel similarly indulgent? As a Mom, how do you fit these moments into your life? How do they make you feel?

01/24/2008 09:42 AM CST

Vincent Van Gogh

My name is Cynthia I live in Bronx, NY . Where does peanut butter fit into my life? This was a very interesting question and one I had never considered . Until today. It's funny really prior to today I would ahve said that peanut butter doesn't fit into my life but I found in thinking about it that this is not true. Peanut butter for me and my family ahs always been a staple, a comfort food. It was a food to paired with jelly and given to finicky kids (with the crusts cut off, of course!).

The other childhoood memory I ahve of peanut butter is that it was to be used to make wonderful peanut butter cookies - with the crisscrosses! These days peanut butter at home is used pretty much the same way as a comfort food.

My favorite peanut butter is classic smooth Skippy  - the kind I buy usually depends on the occasion I'm buying it for (certain things like bananas  require crunchy!).

An "ideal peanut butter moment" for me is one that reminds me of home and childhood. It amkse me feel warm, loved and cared for. As I saiaid before I never really paid attention to the role of peanut butter in my life but now that I ahve I know that there would be a definite void if peanut butter did not exist anymore. I mean what I offer or prepare when my kids are looking for a healthy afternoon snack?

01/24/2008 11:41 AM CST

Chris

Hi Van Gogh!
Thanks for chiming in?  You are practically writing soup poetry!  My stomach is grumbling too!

How about the rest of you?

Also, can you tell me more about the packages of peanut butter you buy?  Without looking at a jar (or an image of a jar) what are the first things that come to mind when you think about each brand's packaging?

01/23/2008 06:06 PM CST

Chris

Hi Everyone!
It is great to "meet you"! It is amazing how much you can learn about a person by simply listening to them talk about something as simple as PEANUT BUTTER!

Think about all of the ways that peanut butter is packaged and presented to you these days.  Please take a few moments and tell me about all of the different brands of peanut butter you use, how you use them, when you use them, why you use them.
How does the package that the peanut butter comes in affect your expectation of the peanut butter?

Look for a follow up question (the last of the night) around 8:30 CST!

01/23/2008 04:05 PM CST

Rembrandt

As far as I know, most peanut butter is sold in jars.  However, when I've purchased it fresh at Whole Foods it came in a plastic container.  I've noticed that organic versions (the ones that separate) tend to be sold in glass jars.  Honestly, I think that's a horrible idea.  Typically, the oil that separates makes the packaging really slippery and, when you add glass into the picture, it can be a recipe for disaster!

When I was a kid, we always bought Skippy Peanut butter.  So I have great memories of eating Skippy straight from the jar with a spoon!  Now I typically buy whatever is organic.  Usually I'll get 365 brand which you can find at Whole Foods.  However, I have also purchased Whole Foods' own peanut butter that they sell in the produce section.  That particular brand comes in a plastic tub.

For me, I tend to associate glass jars with highly quality...although, I really don't like the glass because it makes for pretty slippery packaging.  Peanut butter in a plastic tub would probably connote low quality for me...unless I purchased it from a farmer's market or had another reason to believe that it was really fresh.

01/23/2008 05:39 PM CST

Rene Magritte

I'm with you, Rembrandt.  I think glass definitely connotates better quality.  Like the manufacturer takes their product more seriously or something.  I dunno know, I just think plastic is SO pedestrian.

I wonder why they never put the jars in an extra box though?  Seems like it would feel fancier if they did have a box around a glass bottle.

And while I don't think it would feel nice for me as a PB eater, I do think some sort of squeeze mechanism would be good for how many PB sandwiches I have to make for my kids.  Would save some hassle.

01/23/2008 04:52 PM CST

Gustuv Klimt

There are two kinds of peanut butter that I know about. First there is the kind that comes in a jar and second there is the kind that I've seen in those big 5 gallon buckets at the fancy grocery stores - I think that's the natural/organic kind that's runny and I don't like. My wife and I use JIF. She takes P & J sandwiches to work and has it as a snack on apples and veggies. She makes these things called ants on a log. It's peanut butter smeared into a piece of celery then topped with raisins - get it, ants on a log. It's really good and she says it's healthy for us. I like peanut butter on my waffles on Sunday morning with some syrup and maybe twice a week or so I have it on my ice cream. My wife sometimes buys those crackers in the store that already have peanut butter in between them. I don't know the brand name though. We use JIF because that's both what we grew up eating and we are very familiar with it. Even looking at the jar in the store reminds me of being a little kid sitting by the pond with my brown bag lunch of  P & J and chips. I know what I'm buying every time I pick up a jar of JIF!

Nice work today everyone!
I hope that you are all getting comfortable with the way this technology works.  And most importantly, I hope you are enjoying yourselves

Here are the final questions of the evening...

Please take a look at this peanut butter package:

Have you ever bought this brand of peanut butter? What did the package (label, jar, portion size, etc.) say to you?  What do you expect from this peanut butter (quality, taste, ingredients, etc.)?

Finally, where do you buy this peanut butter?

01/23/2008 04:10 PM CST

Rembrandt

Honestly, I would probably think that this brand was low-quality.  The picture on the front looks very low-budget.  I would probably not expect much from this peanut butter.

I might find this peanut butter in a gas station.

01/23/2008 04:59 PM CST

Gustuv Klimt

I have never bought this brand of peanut butter before. It looks like that fancy hummus stuff that my wife buys. Peanut butter should come in a large jar - not something that looks like a fancy dip. The OLDE STYLE across the top makes me think that maybe this company used to make salsa and now they are trying their hand at peanut butter but forgot to change the design of the package. I wouldn't know what to expect from this peanut butter, I don't think it would taste very good at all. Maybe you would buy this at a fancy grocery store like whole foods.

01/23/2008 05:40 PM CST

Rene Magritte

Can you say "cheap & chintzy"?  I would definitely not buy this.  Looks very sketchy.  Bad graphics too.  What's up with that dancing peanut?  And I thought Olde Style was salsa?

01/24/2008 09:43 AM CST

Vincent Van Gogh

Hello,
This package says BORING to me. Sure, it may be healthy. Sure, it's probably got far fewer preservatives than my beloved can of Skippy. But come on!!! Since when does healthy have to mean brown and boring?

I do like the plastic container vs. the jar. It suggests that it is fresher (like hummus or pre-made salsa). I would expect to find this in the deli section of my grocery store (near the olives, feta, etc.)

01/23/2008 10:06 PM CST

Chris

Goodnight Everyone!!
Thank you for all of your hard work  We touched upon a variety of topics and it was fascinating to hear from each of you!

Have a great night and we will regroup tomorrow morning.  My first question to you will be waiting for you when you wake up.

Sweet peanut butter dreams!

Good Morning Everyone!

Rise & Shine!
Ready to Get Started?

Thank you for all of your hard work yesterday. You really caught on quickly and I am impressed by your thoughtful, comprehensive posts. If you haven't done so already, please go back and read some of my follow-up questions. Please respond to those before moving on to this morning's topics. Thanks :)

01/24/2008 06:15 AM CST

Chris

Ok.. Here we go!
What do you all think of  this brand of peanut butter?

As you create your answers, please think about the following questions:
What does the Skippy brand "stand for"?
What does the packaging suggest to you?
Is the Skippy logo and packaging consistent with the way you think about Skippy peanut butter? What makes you say this?
How is it different from Jiff and Smuckers?
What do those brands "mean" to you?

01/24/2008 08:05 AM CST

Rembrandt

To me, the Skippy brand reminds me of childhood because I ate so much of it as a kid!  The packaging has really bright colors and seems really kid-friendly.  Having "Fuel the Fun" written on the jar makes it seem like an energetic, fun brand.

Since the packaging is a plastic jar, my first reaction is that it's a popular, mainstream brand of peanut butter.

I tend to associate Smuckers with jelly and have never really had their peanut butter.  So I wouldn't think that it would be as good as Skippy.  I tend to think of Jiff as being a similar brand that's similar to Skippy.  I also tend to think of Peter Pan in the same genre.  All three brands are brands that I would probably make a child's peanut butter and jelly sandwich with.  They are all dependable and good tasting brands of peanut butter.  I probably wouldn't use the Smuckers since I don't typically think of them as a maker of peanut butter....just like if Skippy made jelly, I probably wouldn't buy it.

OK... Gotta run. I have to drop my kids off at school and pick up the dry cleaning -- oh, and run by the grocery store. This conversation has inspired me to add more peanut butter to my list! I'll be back in a few hours to check in again.

01/24/2008 11:43 AM CST

Chris

WOW!
You are certainly a Mom on the go.  Thanks for taking the time to join us!
Great description.
Please take some time and read and respond to the comments made by the other folks.  Build upon what they are saying....use them for inspiration.

Great work.

01/24/2008 11:10 AM CST

Gustuv Klimt

I like Skippy but we've only bought it once or twice. Skippy to me stands for good ole American peanut butter! The packaging makes me feel like a kid again-reminds of summertime back in Indiana. JIF seems old fashioned to me and Skippy seems more upbeat and kid like. Smuckers to me says jelly, do they also make peanut butter? If so, I didn't know that. JIF means good, quality peanut butter and Smuckers means jelly to me.

01/24/2008 12:12 PM CST

Rene Magritte

Skippy is the definitive peanut butter.  For me it is the one & only.  When I eat Jif, it just doesn't taste right.  Kinda like when I get a mocha from Caribou and not from Starbucks.  its just not the same.

Smuckers means that weird guy on the Today Show who talks about old people's birthdays.  I'm never sure why Smuckers sponsors that, but they always show up there.  I don't think Smuckers makes peanut butter, do they?  I thought they were only jams.

01/24/2008 11:45 AM CST

Chris

Hi Magritte!
I am glad that we are getting you to think deeply about peanut butter already!  Please take some time and read and respond to what the others are saying, thinking and feeling.  Respond, chime in, agree and disagree...You are all coming up with some very rich images.

In the meantime, help me understand how you purchase peanut butter. Is there a certain size jar that you buy? What drives this decision?

Also, when you get home, where do you store it? What else is next to the peanut butter on the shelf?
Thanks!

01/24/2008 01:13 PM CST

Vincent Van Gogh

Skippy suggests childhood fun. It reminds me of after-school snacks and peanut butter and jellies (with the crusts cut off!)
The packaging is bright and colorful and much more fun than the rival Jif. In fact, it sort of says. "Yes, we have more sugar than Jif - and we celebrate that fact." Jif's darker colors are more in line with its positioning as "Mom's choice". This package suggests that kids will like it (and Moms will hopefully approve).

I like seeing the pictures of the peanuts on the front and the fact that "Creamy" is so clear. There's nothing worse than grabbing a jar and then realizing it was crunchy!

01/24/2008 10:10 AM CST

Chris

Another couple of questions for you --

Where does Skippy let you down?

If you were in charge of this brand, what would you do differently? What sorts of new products would you want to create? What issues (packaging, marketing, etc.) would you want to address?

01/24/2008 11:19 AM CST

Rembrandt

This product does seem pretty geared towards kids.  I have to say that, as an adult consumer who is interested in organic products, I'd really love it if Skippy would come out with an organic version of their product that was a little more high-end.  Since I tend to purchase organic or freshly ground peanut butter, if Skippy came out with an organic product with more sophisticated packaging, I'd probably be more likely to buy it.

01/24/2008 11:41 AM CST

Gustuv Klimt

Skippy doesn't really let me down unless I found out that they don't make chunky peanut butter, but I wouldn't know if they did or not because my wife does all the grocery shopping. If I were in charge of this brand I would create some type of peanut butter product that I could put on my ice cream. Maybe I would also create some type of peanut butter that had maple syrup in it so I could save a step when I'm having my waffles on Sunday morning. I don't really hear that much about skippy so maybe they should advertise more on the televison. The packaging is fun for kids but maybe they should make the packaging for kids and adults.

Could they consider doing a sugar free?  Like I said before, I'm more conscious of what I put in my body these days.  I'd love to have the taste of Skippy paired with an offering that is little easier on my aging body.

And what about to-go options?  I just ate an apple at my desk and was thinking, "gosh this would be better with peanut butter".  But I don't want to drag a whole bottle with me.  Little snack pack sizes or something would be good.

This afternoon, I'd like you to think about Skippy in terms of pictures.

Specifically, we are going to show you a series of pictures and we'd like you to chose 5 pictures that best represent what Skippy means to you. Once you select your images, we will use them to make an interactive "collage" of role that Skippy Peanut Butter plays in your life.

Please note that there are no right or wrong answers. These pictures were specifically chosen because they could represent lots of different things to different people. Simply scroll through the images (there are nearly 100 to chose from!) and pick 5 which you feel best represent Skippy.

Once you pick your five pictures, the tool will ask you to explain why you selected each picture. For example, if we were doing this exercise about Nike, one of my pictures might have been a picture of a puddle. For this image, I would write a description such as:

"I selected this image because it reminds me of a road, just after a hard rainstorm. When I wear my Nike running shoes, I feel like I can run anywhere, through any condition - rain or shine. There is this amazing sense of freedom that comes from running on a quiet road after a rainstorm. It's my own mini-escape. My own personal adventure. My own wet, muddy, messy, glorious, liberating adventure."

Once you have written a description for each image, the tool will help you to create a collage by placing each of your pictures on a bull's eye, with the picture the most represents SKIPPY in the middle and then working your way out to the picture that least represents SKIPPY. Once you are all done, you will explain the "story" that it tells, working from the inside-out. So, back to my Nike example, I might write:

"The image in the center of my collage is of a man hand gliding over an open field. To me, this represents the fact that my Nikes liberate me from the realities of my day-to-day. They quite literally give me the power to "fly".. to escape. The puddle represents the fact that I can find my own adventure in any weather, in any condition. The shoes are stylish and well-designed (as represented by the painter's palette). They are high-energy, ("electric" just like that wire...) and can be worn outside the gym with a pair of jeans."

Tomorrow morning, we will post everyone's collages so that we can show each other our creations and discuss them as a group (similarities, differences, etc.)

As we wrap up for the evening, a few final questions...
What flavors/kinds of peanut butter would you expect a company like Skippy to bring you next year?
What makes you say so?
What do you wish they would bring you next year?

I probably wouldn't expect Skippy to bring out any new products next year because they don't seem like they come out with new products very often.  Their peanut butter is really popular and they seem to do well appealing more to kids.

However, if they came out with an organic, all natural version or even a whipped version, I'd love it!

I would hope that they could find a solution to my want for a combo of peanut butter and maple syrup for my waffles. Since they are such a big company if they did something different like this I would think that this could really set them apart from all of the other big companies.

Fantastic Work Everyone!

This evening, I'd like to talk a bit more about organic foods

Do you all purchase natural and/or organic food for your family?

If so:
Please describe the types of organic food you buy.
What motivates you to buy organic foods for your family?
Are you willing to pay more for organic food?
Do you currently buy organic peanut butter? Why or why not?

If not:
What prevents you from buying organic/natural foods?
How likely are you to buy organic food in the future?

To ALL:
What role (if any) do you think organic should play in the world of peanut butter.
Is organic peanut butter a good idea?

I am a huge fan of organic foods.  I try to purchase organic meats and produce whenever I can.  When I eat organic foods, it really makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my health and it makes me feel like I'm taking good care of my husband.  (I'd give it to the cats too if it wasn't so expensive!!)  As I said before, I really like purchasing organic peanut butter and this is usually what I'll buy when I purchase peanut butter at the store.

I am usually willing to pay the extra money to buy organic/natural foods.  The only thing that prevents me from buying organic is when a product isn't available.  Sometimes, even when I go to Whole Foods, certain types of fruits/vegetables are only available in the conventional version (not-organic).  That's always a let-down.  One of the major reasons why I rarely shop at regular stores now and prefer Whole Foods is that I can't find enough organic foods at the regular store.

I love the idea of organic peanut butter and I really prefer organic peanut butter over conventional types.

We don't really purchase natural or organic food. It seems like a lot of people do though so maybe this is something we should consider. We don't buy it because it costs more and my wife says you have to go to all of those speciality stores to get it. Where we live they just aren't close and affordable. We might buy it in the future if the prices come down but the way things are now days I don't know if that's going to happen. Organic, I guess should be an option for people. It's a good idea because in the long run it's probably better for you.

I'm doing great, but I wish it were Sunday because as you all know by now that's when I eat waffles, peanut butter and maple syrup!!! Mmmmm it's good. If you haven't had it - what are you waiting for?

What do you think? I think your collages look great!

This morning, I'd like to spend some time talking about the collages as a group. Once you have had a chance to look through everyone's personal collage, please answer a few questions:

- What is the first thing you notice about everyone's collages?
- What are the similarities and the differences between the collages?
- Which images seem to BEST represent Skippy to our group?
- If you had to create ONE summary statement about the role that Skippy plays in our lives (collectively), what would this statement say?

Can't wait to hear what you all have to say....

Nice work everybody!

Now I would like you to vote on which of your supplied with board with the greatest number of worthwhile comments.  What I am looking for is the one person who supplied us with the most thought-provoking, thoughtful responses.

Feel free to look back over prior days' discussions!
